Vestigios del tiempo:
la persistencia de la materia.

armando mesías & MARía elena pombo

Sorondo Projects’ booth at ArtBo examines how materials transform over time and how their meanings shift depending on context, inviting reflection on what they reveal about society and collective memory. Featuring artists Armando Mesías and María Elena Pombo, the presentation explores impermanence, identity, and our relationship with the natural world. Mesías uses painting and installations shaped by both decay and intervention to reflect on time’s effect on the self, while Pombo works with natural fibers and ancestral techniques to highlight the resilience and fragility of organic matter. Together, their works create a space of reflection on memory, transformation, and the lasting traces humans leave through materials.

LO QUE LA LUZ SUSURRA Y LA MATERIA RECUERDA

GRAZIELA GUARDINO & MARISA PURCELL

When art chooses to focus on color rather than form, it enters into a process of exploration that is purely material yet, paradoxically, awakens a psychic dimension that can touch the spiritual. Abstraction then reaches an emotional plane, and the work exists as both a physical and a metaphysical entity, but never in a complete way, because each change of light, perspective, and angle impacts the nuances of colorimetry. Thus, the experience before these works will be unique, deeply personal, and unrepeatable.

In this exhibition, color takes center stage in two distinct yet complementary poetics. Marisa Purcell works with precision and refinement on large chromatic planes that operate as presences. They do not seek to signify beyond the concreteness of their delicate beauty, nor do they function as deictics, but rather as translations of states of mind, radiating their aura in the exhibition space. Her driving force is light and, therefore, also shadow.

ABout the gallery

We are a project space for young artists, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community where diverse voices thrive. By amplifying their perspectives and showcasing their work, we aim to challenge stereotypes, celebrate diversity, and promote empathy. Our represented artists explore themes of identity, belonging, displacement and cultural exchange, offering fresh insights into the complexities of otherness, a concept central to our mission.

We collaborate passionately with artists who defy traditional boundaries, working across disciplines such as ceramics, textiles, video art, installation, painting, and sculpture. Our space on Trafalgar Street in Barcelona serves as a hub where pluralism and respect for materials enable our artists to experiment with new formats and techniques.

Our exhibition programme reflects our commitment to an open and inclusive art ecosystem, creating a dynamic dialogue between materials and identity. Each exhibition invites visitors to engage with the artworks, fostering reflection and deeper connections. By highlighting diverse approaches, we seek to challenge conventional ideas of art and broaden the understanding of identity in today’s world. We invite everyone to visit our exhibitions and participate in this ongoing dialogue, where each piece is an invitation to discover new ways of seeing and understanding the world around us.
